What to do if the government nationalizes 401K plans |
|
|
There are many articles on the internet about the subject above if you search on nationalize 401K. Though it is not clear what/if anything will happen,it seems like the government wants to prop up the treasury market. To do this, they will require us to invest in Treasury Bonds in our 401K so we are lending them money.
If this happens should we rollover our 401K plans and what would be the best investments to move them to.
Thanks

Dreamer100,
Are you smoking that stuff that was legalized in Washington state?
I don't know what you mean by nationalize.
But investing in government bonds may have some drawbacks, but consider how your grandparents saved for their retirement. Many employees in the 1950's and 60's purchased the Series E bonds. The bonds were purchased with after tax money, but typically grew tax deferred. This with a pension served many people quite well.
Here is a timeline history of savings bonds promoted by many presidents, and many movie stars and on the Sienfeld show. http://www.treasurydirect.gov/timeline.htm
To raise revenue the government is more likely to put some limits on our 401k/403b contributions.
One more bit, you should change your radio and TV channels.
