Did You Know? |
|
|
Hi All,
Did you know that authorising a regular payment off a credit card known as a ‘Continuous Payment Authority’ is much more dangerous than a bank account ‘direct debit’. !The problem is you can’t cancel it, only the company its set up with can. !
The major, but not exclusive, culprit of such dodgy dealings are internet porn sites leaving people taking embarassed monthly payments. Always make sure any CPA is set up with a legit company, and try to use direct debts not credit cards.
Thanks,
Trevor.

It is so easy to get into trouble.
I have even tried to be "entangled" in a pay-system practically impossible to escape. The company had suddenly become invisible but not the payments.
Thanks for your advice.

Thanks for this alarming piece of news, Martin. Like any good moneysaver with a cashback credit card, I try to pay for everything on my credit card. This now includes CPAs for my internet service, mobile/landline services and magazine subscriptions. Getting people like Freeserve and OneTel has been hell in the past - I didn't realise how lucky I'd been to end up even.

Continuous Payment Authority |
|
|
Thank you for a very good thread! I read this earlier and I have most of my bills on 'Continuous Payments'. Mostly it's utilities and monthly bills. My Credit Union has an 'easy pay' plan where they will authorize continuous payment on my checking account but there is a $5.95 charge each month for the CU to do this for me. So years ago, I took a voided check into each vendor and they done my account each month for what they need. However, if I ever need the CU's help with a rogue vendor who I have stopped authorization, there is a $20.00 charge to intervene with a stop payment. Since it's day to day utilities, I should not have a problem with the vendor if I give adequate notice to stop payment. But you just never know...... I wouldn't trust my cable company for a minute!
I called my Credit Union today and they will wave the 'easy pay' $6.00 per month(good for 10 vendors) if I go all electronic and don't receive paper statements anymore. I would miss my paper statements each month but ....... I am pondering..... some moves and changes into the cloud??>>(For right now that would be my external drive on my desktop. lol....that's about as cloudy as I want to get.) Thank You!
