Retirement Poll - Weigh In  Reply with quote

I was just curious what kinds of returns everyone is seeing in their retirement accounts.

I moved companies a couple months ago but my old 401k was through Fidelity. Since I am only 25 (long way to retirement) I wanted to invest aggressively in stocks. Here is what I had:

FID Large Cap Stock
FID Nasdaq Comp Indx
Invs Divrs Divd R5
Sptn 500 Index INV

Between January and August I was very surprised to learn my return was 12% (have had some accounts that return 2% a year).

How is everyone else doing?

Since I've been really involved with the market going back to January 2009 until the present, my personal performance according to Vanguard is 17.3%. Three funds that I use are the Admiral Total stock market index fund, the Wellington Fund and the International Value Fund.

To be honest though, it's not as impressive as you think, anyone could have had that type of performance if they had money in the S&P500 for the past 6 years. It really isn't rocket science.
