Really it just depends on your personal interest, tastes, finances etc.
I recently decided to pack up and move and I used the following resources for my research:
This website can give you information about housing appreciation and safety etc.
http://www.neighborhoodscout.com
This website give info on demographics of the area
http://www.city-data.com
This is a good way to find out which major city you would like to live in based on your interest and lifestyle

LOL - you took the demographics test - and it sent you to Cincinnati? Doesn't say a lot for the test.
(Actually, the test is a phishing scam to gather names & addresses).

Right you are, oldguy. I took the test from a private browser, and after about 10 pages, it asks for all kinds of personal data. This is a junk mail and spam harvesting site. There's no way I'd use it for an actual search.
Good catch. Too many young people nowadays don't care about privacy. They'd rather Siri told them where the nearest restaurant is, and let the ads come in from every corner.

A demographics test? No.
The website was extremely useful in telling me about the general details of cities that fit my personal profile. Proximity to major airports, sporting events, weather/climate, landscape, population etc.
I took this quiz back in January of this year and I have yet to receive any fishing scams as a result. I have had countless friends take the same quiz and not one of them came back to me telling me it ruined their life or made any inconveniences of their life or online activities. If a certain website wants to collect data on people to better market to the population, than good for them. There is a disclosure that I read before filling out any questions or information about myself. If my life is so interesting that I shall be spied on by marketing groups, have at it. Ultimately it is my choice on whether I fall for obvious scams, but I certainly won't live my life being in fear of online marketing research spying on me.
Yes, it sent me to Cincinnati as one of my 25 top compatible cities. I did further research and visited the area two times before selling my home in Florida. I couldn't be happier about my decision. I finally feel like I am at home.

To the original poster... Another site I have been finding useful is a real estate site called Trulia. You can look at a crime map of areas you are considering to move to or buy a home in. It will pull up recent police reports and crime activity. You can also view the walkability, public transit, and amenities of the area.
