Should I buy or should I wait? |

I will be retiring in 4 years, I pretty much have everything mapped out... I was looking to move further south and found a golf course lot in South Carolina overlooking the green, about 1/3 acre, I had it walked by a builder and it’s a good building lot .I went down and looked it over and absolutely love this lot the 1700-SF house I would build fits perfectly...The lot cost 12K. But I won't be ready to build for 4 years I will be paying approx. $1500.00 per year in fees. I feel as though I'm wasting money doing it this way . I could probably find another lot closer to retirement but not sure at this price or with this view. Or I could look at it as though the lot cost 18K? Is there a better way?
Your opinions are greatly appreciated.

Be careful about locking your home and yourself into a single lifestyle. Eg, golf is your heart's desire at 58, probably still will be at 62. But at 68, after playing 5 times a week, it might drag - especially if your scores worsen. And by 70 you might tire of it, wish to do other things (a trip to Alaska, Australia, yada) but the only thing that the "group" discusses is golf.
And after 70, you'll have a house that costs an extra $1500/yr, you still have a dozen balls a week in your back yard, some cause damage - windows, dimples in your siding, dents in the AC unit, etc.
I would wait - by age 62 you might want a horse property in the mountains?

Guy I would agree, as I like to boat, fish, and hunt as well. This community offers access to a 70,000 acre reservoir and the huge tributary’s that feed it. Surrounded by 3 State Parks, and also National Forrest land. So It very multifaceted for my interests. I realize that someday I’ll have to move…If I’m lucky it will be to some sort of assisted living facility. I’m hoping my choice of a golf home will hasten it's sale when that time arrives.
