Perhaps in my initial post I did sound a bit like a wuss. You have to understand though, it was like being stabbed in the back when I discovered that my wife had accumulated a massive amount of debt behind my back. During the initial shock of facts I was feeling down; Hence the name "Flndwn". I wasn't really thinking straight because of the shocking facts. At the time I felt I needed others to talk to and this forum turned out to be a good outlet for that need.
Fortunately I also have a friend here in town who went through the exact same thing with his wife. He also gave me valuable advice on this problem. It turned out he took out a home equity loan for his wife to pay off her accumulated credit card debt. I since have looked into this and fortunately with the built up equity in our house, we should have no problem obtaining a loan for my wife's credit card debt. Instead of a home equity loan, I plan on refinancing the mortgage and cashing out the amount to pay the credit card debt. My wife will now work full time rather than part time as she was. With her increased income she will pay off the credit card portion of the new mortgage. It will take much time, but from what I can see she is committed to the plan. I see a silver lining in all this; With the refinancing we are getting a slightly lower interest rate and doubling the remaining term of the loan. We still plan on making the same monthly payments towards the house as we are now, but the longer term gives us much added security in case things get rough. Our budget is tight to begin with, so this longer term will allow us to ease up on payments towards the house if need be. For the most part, we plan on making payments above the monthly payment schedule. Yes, I am making sure there are no prepayment penalties on the loan.
I am more confident and optimistic than I was last week about resolving this problem. I now feel that this financial setback will eventually be resolved. Hopefully the relationship with my wife will now improve also. Honesty with each other is what we have to strive for. Yes, there are still unanswered questions about her debt, but my priority right now is getting rid of the debt as quickly as possible. My trust in her has been broken; This is something we will definitely work on.
Again thanks for all of the advice everyone posted. Hopefully you guys "Rolo" and "Euler" will mend your differences. I see where both of you were coming from. Wink

totally off topic but what is pot going for these days?

More off topic.

Time for one of my when I was grossly under employed stories.

One time as a grocery worker we smelled some pot in the back room. The store manager smelt it and said, "I don't get stoned anymore but sometimes I sure do miss it."

It was kind of funny because he didn't seem like the pot smoking type.

Ask Rolo, he's the expert. Or maybe he'll just blame THAT on his wife too. LOL

My rivalry with Rolo is a little more tongue and cheek than all that.

I do happen to agree that the scriptures and the Nietzche quotes were hilariously self-destructive to his case. I was happy to keep my chuckles to myself until you mentioned it.

Mainly I'm glad that Flndwn is getting closer to his goals. All the rest is popcorn at the movie.

How is the ability to draw truth from ecclectic sources self-destructive?
