Asking for a raise is one of the most daunting tasks an employee can face. If the boss gives the employee the raise, they are often held to higher expectations which may make work more stressful. If the boss does not give the raise, the employee may feel cheated and may be uncomfortable at work.

I got a raise once by trying to unionize my employer.

My manager called me in and asked what the union could get us.

My next pay check matched that amount.

Cheaper to just pay one person more then risk paying everyone what they are worth.

Company lost quite a few lawsuits for not paying women what men were making. Had I been sucessfull in getting the union in perhaps the company would still be thriving?
