Part of the reason your website might not be taking off is almost all of the information on it can be found elsewhere... I just don't see anything unique about your site..
not to mention your site name is Economywatchers.com but yet the site url is www.savetheeconomy.org
seems like an interesting site but you might want to try to develpe a niche... as it appears you just repaste RSS feeds.....
Although i do commend you on making a dive into the website design and possibilities realm As you can make money on the net !!! as Myself and others on this site can attest to.

Well, it looks nice!
What's your traffic like and where does it come from?

Yes you would need to drive traffic. Try to get links to your site from as many sites as you can. The more links you get to your site the higher the likely hood you will get rankings in search engines.

Thanks for your input. |

I will try to adress each point:
1. The url issue was the result of a last minute name change in favor of a ".com" instead of a ".org." Do you think this is a big turn off, or should it be explained in the "about" page?
2. Content - We have known that original contet would be important, but we have had some difficulty finding anyone interested in writing. At this point, most of our access to writers is limited to the university. Do you have any suggestions?
3. Our traffic is very low, avg = 50/mo, but I have been linking to pages and directories over the last couple weeks.
We do not plan on making millions with this site, but we would like to cover operating costs. We have sold an average of 1.5 items a month for the last few months. Are there any ideas on increasing sales of merchandise? We are currently working on a suggested reading list linking to our amazon affiliate page.
Thanks for your response!

If you would give more info about your site we would be more than glad to give you more specific information.
Content is ok man starting off with only a few articles is fine as you have to start somewhere. You cant start a site with 100's of articles over night.....
Just like sites like this one mine and others the forums dont grow over night as people ahve to post and you cant make them.
as far as url you don't need to explain why you choose .com or .org or why etc....
If you ahve the url registered what is it we can comment better.

I think your site is awesome.
So WHAT if it's just other people's feeds right now.
I've never seen them all in one place before.
Of course, adding unique articles will be helpful, too,
and will also contribute to your site rankings.
If nothing else ... OBVIOUSLY you are interested in this subject matter, so you are qualified to at the very least DIGEST other people's articles that are of interest to your readers.
Think "The Week" how they have short blurbs about various topics that were written about by other people. They just quote them all. Go grab a copy of "The Week" at your local news stand if you don't know what I mean.
You can then DIGEST the stuff that you read and find interesting and add that to your site so people could get LOTS of info with VERY LITTLE reading.
I'm lazy and would LOVE that.
NEXT seek out very vocal writers with opposing economic views and offer them BOTH A column on your site. HE SAID/HE SAID format.
That would give you yet ANOTHER unique attraction. Offer them some kind of incentive, like promoting them as a speaker, or referring to their book if they have one, etc.
NEXT ... look into approaching your local talk radio station with being the economy watchdog and coming on weekly for 3-5 minutes with some news. This is great. FREE. AND could get syndicated if it becomes popular.
I also emailed you an idea for getting traffic easily and inexpensively AND building a list of subscribers free. Hopefully, you will like it and send me one of your cool mugs!
Good luck. I like what you're doing and hope you succeed.

We have made some changes per your advice. |

Thank you all for your input. Recently, we have added a weekly editorial as our first component of original content. We will also be adjusting the merchandise available through cafe press. Thanks again, and there will more to come.
