Marketing advice need to launch new web site.  Reply with quote

In a month or so I'm about to launch my new web site.

I've done some research and found many different ways to get traffic directed to my site, but as always for a price. I have a limited budget of about 5k and I need to last for at least 3 months.

What would you experts out there recommend that I do first?

1) Should I start the first wave of advertising by signing up with various on-line directories? Ex: yahoo

2) Should I start firs with a wave of email newsletters?

3) Should I start with PPC in Yahoo/Google?

Would it be more efficient that I do those steps in a particular order or all at once?

All of your suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

H

I would first put it in the signigure of any forum you are a member of, providing it is allowed in the forum rules.

Then submit to all of the directories that you can. This won't get you traffic but it will give you back links.

Both of those methods are free.

If you were willing to spend some money, maybe use the google adword program, that way you can set exactly how much you want to spend every month.

Just remember, any website takes time, and in time it should grow. Don't get discouraged right in the beginning if traffic is small.

Thats just my two cents.

I would love to tell you exactly what to do, but for a little longer, I have
to keep it a secret.

However, I can give you some very important pointers:

* Absolutely have a way to capture those names and email addresses
* Make sure your headline is captivating and content delivers on that
* Do a proper amount of onpage optimization (if you haven't a clue how
to do it, go read it here: http://insidemarketing.blogspot.com - it's in two
of the posts). If you still need advice, contact me and I'll send you some
great tips (hypnodoc@gmail.com). Be careful at this step.
* Advertise also offline - many people forget about it
* When you launch, get as many back links as possible (but avoid web
sites with more than 100 links on them - they will get you penalized!)
* PPC is probably the fastest way to get quality traffic. Be careful not to bid
on too popular keywords. With a proper strategy you can get 1000 targeted
visitors for $50! Now that's somethin' ain't it Smile
* DO NOT BUY email leads or safelists or anything of that kind. Yuck!
* DO NOT BUY "traffic" for $10 or any amount.

Anyway, if you want to know the secret I mentioned before, sign up with
Trafficology and take the advantage of the two months free offer - you will be
amazed, I promise. You have to order and you will get first two months
free. After two months you can cancel and pay nothing while keeping the
precious advice. Voila.

Enjoy and have a great time.

The power of the sig file  Reply with quote

Last December I was in a similar situation.
I was a member of a forum which was a great resource for education
in the field I was getting into.
January 2nd I put a sig file in my posts on the forum.
Instead of asking questions in the forum I started answering peoples
questions to the best of my ability.
From Jan 2nd there was a direct correlation between posts I made and
visitors to my site.
I averaged just over 1 sign up per day for my product from my website from Jan 3rd to late March. Of these, 53 made a purchase.
This equated to just over $8,700 in sales.
50 of these sales were directly from my sig file.

So....join a forum related to the product/service you provide.
Become actively involved in answering others questions.
This must be done sincerely though. Not for the sake of posting.
Believe me, it wont work if you are not sincere.

People will click on your sig file because you build up trust with the members
due to your willingness to help others further their cause.
It`s a universal law...If you help enough other peo.......
( you know the rest )

Hope this helps Smile

I have never used them, but since they submit to search engines I would not be interested. Like someone else said get backlinks that will get your site indexed in the search engines. I have had nothing but bad luck paying for traffic. I think you would be better off trying the free route like posting in forums. The only thing I would pay money for would be Google Adword, but you need to know what you are doing or you can lose money there also.

Good Luck

Giving at first has great consequences...  Reply with quote

I totally agree with Unger. The problem arises only if you become greedy
too fast and try to sell stuff too soon. I suggest you make visiting and
buying from your site a natural thing for the reader to do. Never force them
and never make you're sales pitch too obvious.

You will probably burn if you do that.

Just honestly try to help. You have to give first in order to take. An example:

A post I made here and on some other forum made me a great stream of
visitors to my web site (about 100 in a few hours!). Some even called my
advice genius and wrote me how much they loved it. One of my posts even
got recommended by the forum moderator.

What happened next? Well, I saw the opportunity and posted a second
post a few days later. Not knowing what I am telling you now, I made it
look, feel, and "smell" like an advertisment. Even worse. I thought that
people will listen to me now and put my affilate link with an ebook review.

Don't get me wrong, the book was fantastic and I really thaught what I wrote
and think everybody would really gain a lot by purchasing it. But it didn't
seem that way to the readers. I've never seen someone's reputation go
down so fast. And I can still feel it. Not that I was trying to con anyne. I just
got a bit greedy and didn't put enough efort into it and didnt show the
proper respect for the readers. Always do that.

Hope this helps, have a great day.

Thanks for all of your replies. I have one more question.

How about email marketing? Have any of you had good luck in doing a newsletter email?

Thanks again.

It is important to submit your sites to search engines that matters like Google, Yahoo, MSN, HotBot. However, it takes time for a page to be highly ranked. But don't worry about that, getting listed is the first step.

Then you might want to do link exchange with other similar web sites. There are a lot of web sites willing to do link exchange. So do check that out.

And I guess the easiest way for you to get traffic is to Adword or Overture. These will be quality traffic as these people are really looking for what they want from these search engine.

And do forget about any sites offering you a guaranteed 1 million traffic in a month. It's a waste of money.

Lastly, good luck!
