ok, so i was talking to one of my friends on the net. She said she had just started working for this corporation that gives you 2k+ a month..depending on how much you work. She said that her and her sponser would come to my place and show me the inside scoop. So i said what the hell, lets see what they got to offer. So this guy shows me how to make extra income. There is a huge mega site out there that has just about everything for sale. Lots of companies are a part of this site. So the idea is, you buy or purchase something off the site and you get a certain amount of points. Say you buy $250 worth of stuff. You get so much of the percentage of what you bought, say 3%. Well you go out and find other people to expand your business. You get a percentage of what they buy off the internet because you brought them into your business. So the money keeps growing the more people you find to buy stuff on this site and the more stuff you buy on this site. The way I understood it was that this site doesnt have to follow through with the supplier, manufactuer, retailer and these expenses are thus gone for the company to make more profit. Also, say you and other people in your chain buy $1000 worth of stuff and you get say 10% of the profit. They say you will get a check for $100 the rest of your life. Im going to a presentation that they are holding at a Holiday Inn in a nearby town to check it out and get a better idea of whats going on here. I am very leary of scams and am very hesitant, but the guy seemed to make sense overall. The only part that seemed fishy was how could you get a check for the rest of your life for so much money even if you dont do anything after you bust butt the first few months to earn $100+ a month. ANYWAYS...opinions are apprecitated. THANKS!

No opinion here. Fact: you just described a modern pyramid scam known as MLM.
You bought $250 of overpriced junk and other people profitted. Your choice is now to either:
1. eat your mistake and chalk it up to life lessons
2. go find suckers that will overpay for junk and manipulate them
1 is legal and 2 is fraud and it's your move.

the opportunity i am describing is Quixtar i believe. I just read on the internet that it is not a scam and it is approved by the FTC. Im sure it required a good deal of effort to achieve a good monthly income from it though.

Quixtar == pyramid. The FTC ruling was back in 1979 because Quixtar promised to sell 70% of their products to "retail customers" (LOL WTF?!?)
Quixtar IBO's have found a HUGE loophole because they are allowed to mark any sales however they like. In other words, there is no oversight.
I don't know about any of this. I just know where there's smoke there's fire. Avoid Quixtar.

i decided not to pursue with this opportunity. I read a lot of things on the internet and I feel this is not something for me.

Quixtar is actually related to Amway, but disguised so you may not know it. They have excellent products of their own and many other name brand products. But either one may take a bit more work to profit from than you might initially be led to believe.
The hard part it finding enough other people that will find enough people that will find enough people to make it pay for you. And you may be required to do a certain amount of retail sales yourself (not sure about Quixtar requirements).

Many moons ago I joined Quixtar. It is not a scam, just very hard to earn income. Quixtar, Amway and all other MLM's are very hard to earn any real money at. You need to enroll hundreds and hundreds of people to earn income.
I have always been entrepreneurial and over the years I have enrolled in Amway , Quixtar, Melaluca, Excel Communications, SMC & Don Lapre's Programs. All legit companies but very hard to succeed at. Can you make money with these companies? Yes. Is it easy? No Way.
In March of 2005 I was introduced to another home-based business opportunity. I decided to give it a look (why not?). Having been involved in so many other business opportunities I knew exactly what to look for and I had a keen eye for what I wanted. I have to say that I was impressed right from the get go. This company had everything I was looking for and more. This company is not MLM. This company has products I can be proud of and I earn 75% of every sale (not 3-10%). With this company I get paid first, even before they do. I do not have to make presentations; they do all the selling and telling for me on a daily basis. This company offers daily training and support and has no quotas to fulfill.
I have been involved for 14 weeks now and for the first time in my life I am generating income from home. It feels good to have finally found something that works. It may have taken me 24 years, but I did it. I am now working full time from home and enjoying every minute of it.
So my fellow entrepreneurs,
Work hard, try new things and never give up.
