What kind of event? It is to protect promoters of the event and owner of the property it is held on in case someone attending or competing in the event claims to be injured as a result of the event.
For example when my boss organizes a bike race in Elgin, his club need to have insurance for the race. Some insurance companies specialize in certain types of events.
