Free 1040 Tax Return.com Inc not happy at all  Reply with quote

So, I signed up, supposed to be free. Ex-husband and I have very straight forward nothing fancy return. (seperated this year so we still filed together).

Put in everything, then it tells me it needs $9.88 to file my state return, I enter the credit card details, then remember that can't file this way because my ex's income does not apply to NYS, he is Active Duty Army and PA resident and doesn't pay NYS taxes, H&R Block always files my state without him. ANYWAY, when I realized this, I cancelled out of the program and didn't give it a second thought. I did not file anything.

I was charged $9.88, for nothing, came through my account this morning. I tried to contact customer support, they want another $4.88 to answer a question and $15.88 to answer a tax question! I can't tell them I am not filing with them, so I can't get my $10 bucks back. I tried to call the bank, but that would cost $30 to stop the payment.

I tried to look up the website on www.whois.com, but it keeps telling me the domain name format is incorrect. Does anybody have any other suggestions?

I know its only $10 but it is the principle of the matter, I wonder how many other $10 they've gotten from other unsuspecting folk???

Thanks.

Tim,

thanks for the reply.

It was my debit card with a visa logo...can I still do that?

I would love to write a dispute letter but I can't find an address on the site, and like I said, I tried to look them up on whois.com, but it says the domain is incorrect.

Thanks again.

Stephanie

They got $9.88 from me as well for doing the state tax return form, which they were not even capable of processing (I am an NJ resident who works in NYC), and I guess they don't handle out of state issues. That, of course, doesn't prevent them from charging me BEFORE telling me they are incompetant and unable to actually give me service.

Why did you go to this company when H&R Block did your returns in the past? Any time you see something for free, there is always a catch to it. Normally a web site would have an address or contact listed so you could communicate with them. Every time there has been emails for free stuff sent to me, I always look at the fine points. If they are not spelled out, then the message is deleted. Sorry about your misfortune.

It is unfortunate that there are unscrupulous companies looking to take advantage of individuals. If you are in need of assistance, please communicate with me. Since my background has been preparing personal income taxes for over 20 years, you might describe your situation to me by private message. If I am able to help you out, I will let you know. The 2006 tax season is ending, but 2007 will be here before you know it. My tax returns are prepared using a professional tax preparation program and my background is related. My MBA in Accounting was received in October 1981 and have been working in the Accounting and Tax related areas since then. Good luck with your future!
