by David John Marotta

My parents never sat me down and spoke to me about my families finances, budgeting, etc. I learned the value of money myself because I had to work for every dollar I made. I was never handed free money by my parents, and I believe this helped me better understand the value of money.

Its because our parents were never taught it, they also learned it by living it.

kids and budgets  Reply with quote

Growing up, my mom always used the phrase, "we need to budget." Now I find myself doing the same thing. She still says it! But when I have children, I really do want to keep them in the know as to how we work the household budget. I don't think kids should know EVERYTHING about my finances, but enough for them to realize that money doesn't grow on trees and living w/in our means is the best route to take.

Instead of saying we need to budget I say to my kids "we need to stay on budget"
