Is this a good time to invest in the market?
Are mutual funds affected by whats going on now with the economy?
If this is a good time, is going with an investment firm the right thing?
If so, who would you go with Vanguard, Fidelity or.......?

The reason for investing in the market should be to build wealth over a longterm (30-yr) period. It doesn't work for the shortterm (just a few yrs) because of volatility. Eg, it could be lower 5 yrs from today - there is not a way to predict it - history shows us that over & over. But over a 30 yr period it averages about 11%/yr. The Dow is roughly 11,000 now, it should be about 140,000 in 30 years. The point is - if you are a longterm invester going for 130,000, your entry point doesn't really matter - whether you got in at 10,500 of 11,500 is minor.
IMO, you'll do best by incrementally investing (monthly), always accumulating, never selling or trading. I like both Vanguard & Fidelity.
