Mine showed up only when I was enrolled and then it went away.

The time could vary significantly. if the debt is not resolved and cleared, then it could stay on your credit report up to 7 years, maybe even longer if the debt companies sell your info to different debt collection agencies.

Truth is, unresolved debt can follow you forever. This is why it is advisable to check your credit report and score at least once per year so as to avoid any unwanted surprises.

If you find any errors and items that shouldn't be there - and ones that you already know need to be resolved, then it is best to do your best to resolve them even if you have to get professional help to do so.

Protecting your credit in this day & age is now more critical than ever, especially due to the high rising threat of identity theft and the strict credit measures that are now in place since the economic downfall.

In general, creditors forward information to the credit reporting agencies monthly. The day of the month that each individual creditor sends updates varies. In other words, we might receive an update from creditor A on the first of every month and from creditor B on the 11th of every month, etc. This is why it's important to have access to your credit report every day.

Collections stay on your credit report 7 years after the date of last activity. Normally 7 years after date of last activity means the date that it was sold to the collection agency. Usually your account must be 180 days past due in order for the company to do that. Basically, I'm saying that the collection stays on your report 7 years and 6 months. After that, it will fall off your report.
Best regards.

The debt will remain on your credit report for around seven years. However, you can dispute the account from your credit report it you find that the information is wrongly reported or it remain on your report even after seven years.

It could remain on your credit report for about 7 years, however if you pay it off it could go away very quickly Smile

It may be possible to have the item removed from your credit report, in fact it never hurts to dispute the item in a few different ways. If you are interested in paying some of the outstanding amount you might be able to negotiate it's removal for a settlement amount.

I suggest looking into disputing it, just in case.
