I guess the question should be what is the relation 
SEO: is the art of getting your website ranked well on search engine to drive traffic.
SMM: is how to use social media to make profit.

Both have same destination just different is that SEO is free and SMM is paid. SEO is Optimize your Website to be in SERP's as throughout Organic Search by following Search Engines SEO Guidelines and SMM is paid advertisements which positioned under social sites.
