Automated backlinks can increase your PR but if you check the traffic of you website it's not as high as you think. Avoid black hat strategies and stick to quality link building. This is quite hard but everything you've done will eventually pay off. Just be patient and you'll get what you've worked hard for.

Agree with Axelle. All black hat activities must be harmful for site rankings. Google is updating algorithm all the time, search engine is becoming more and more smarter now, SEO needs hard working.

To try to avoid using keywords are too general, chances are a lot of sites will use the same keywords, it is certainly more difficult.
