I tried but it was too complicated and weird,
needing to add a snipcode 
I use http://www.trafficswarm.com
it is pretty good but slow responses

My number one resource for free advertising has to be article submissions. I try to write 1-2 articles every week and submit them through Article Marketer.
The benefits of article submission are an increase in traffic through link popularity, backlinks, and building authority in your niche. You can also acheive this through forums if you participate consistently in forums.

have you tried traffic exchanges ?
I found them to be a really great way to generate free traffic
all you have to do is register and surf other peoples sites
for every site you visit you are given credit to show your site to other members
a tip that I’m using is this
most traffic exchanges will give you free credits for getting others to use their site from a free link they give you
I found a site called traffic tornado it's great all you do is join them for free
they give you a free web page with approx 20 - 30 traffic exchanges that you join also for free
all you do is upload your affiliate links to the free page they give you
and then advertise this one page when people get their free site they join all the exchanges using your affiliate links
the more people that join your free page the more credits you get for free
the more free traffic you will get
you can find traffic tornado here <deleted>
Hope you find this as useful as me
one other thing when you surf for credits you have to wait between 15-30 seconds before you can go onto another page
if you use a tabbed browser such as firefox
when you join traffic tornado
after you have listed over 10 free traffic exchange links
they will let you download their free tool that lets you
switch between tabs with one button press
that way you can open 20 tabs one for each exchange and you can then click on an advert for that exchange and then click a new tab click on an advert for that exchange and so on and so on so when you get back to the first exchange the 15-30 seconds is up and you can get some more credits without waiting
I spend about one and half hours doing this a day + promote my traffic tornado site
Try doing the same for loads of free traffic

Since you asked, I sure have. Five years ago when FREEnetleads was launched I used traffic exchanges almost exclusively to build my list there to over 10,000 people. I was getting invited to be a guest speaker on other team conference calls to tell their members how to do it.
That was then and this is now. The Internet evolves and if we don't keep up with the changes, we are left behind. People online now want a lot more touch and feel than they ever did. Posting a bare referral link, or even a splash page up somewhere is only seen as graffiti. Exchange users eyeballs are glazed over and they madly click to gain credits, that's the problem.
After all that, traffic exchanges, even though they are a low percentage shot at best, are still better than nothing.

So far as my exp the Google Adwords and Email Marketing are the best effective ones.
However if we have small ad budget then FREE posting is the good choice untill we get sufficient amount and knowledge to do the paid advertising.

you can list your site on a human-edited SEO directory called FriendBox, no direct link juice but nice visibility on a popular Alexa 2300 domain
