Insurance for household goods while in storage |
|
|
My stuff needs to go in storage for a few months while I am between places. My renter's insurance (Amica) covers only up to 10% of my policy limit while my goods are in storage. They won't sell me any supplemental coverage in this circumstance, claiming they do not deal with such a "specialty line." They also would not let me increase my regular coverage for the purpose of obtaining more coverage at the 10% level.
While the self storage company sells some insurance, I would prefer to use a national company for the insurance instead for two reasons -- 1) why flag myself as having an expensive lot of goods and 2) if the whole place burns down, they may not be in a position to make good on the insurance anyhow.
To that end, does anyone have any suggestions for a company who might sell such coverage or other ideas as to how to protect my goods? I estimate I may have $25k in replacement costs if I were to suffer a total loss.
TIA,
M
