I think what you are referring to is Flipping Houses and there is even a TV show about doing that in the US. There are also several books written, one of the most popular by Wade Cook, who some say is a crook.
I haven't done it on purpose, but I have done very well snowballing my real estate purchases naturally. I started with $500 down on a $10,000 property to live in and spent 18 months working on it to sell it for $12,000. That started a trend and built up to owning my current $300,000 home, a beach vacation place and a commercial building I ran my office from. They have all sold but my home and bring me in enough in payments to finance my retirement.
What I have always heard is God isn't making any more dirt, so buy what you can afford and keep buying all you can.

It is very hard, time consuming. You might put a lot of work into a deal and have it fall a part, you make nothing. You might have a ton of deals close at once and make a years salary in a month.

It's all what you are willing to put in it. I didn't find it hard at all, maybe little stressful but that's run out. All you hear is this and that about the Real Estate Market being bad, market is down, sales are down.. blah blah.. Real Estate is all about Adjusting to the Market Trend. If the Market is bad, Rent and hold out... If it's a seller's market, sell. I do not personally believe in a bubble but a loop.
Anyways, if you are interested in a great program that is a One Stop Shop for Real Estate Investing, PM me for more information.
Take Care,
Greg
