A lot of credit cards have higher interest rates in order to compensate for not charging an annual fee, so in actual fact, a credit card that has a low or average annual fee and a low interest rate will be much more beneficial in the long run.

Technically you can ask them to review the account at any time to see if you qualify for a fee-free card. Realistically I'd wait six months from the time you opened the account. If they aren't able to change it then you'll want to ask again each six months after that. They're likely to pull credit each time you ask so that's why I recommend letting some time pass.

Most of the time if they change or downgrade your account from a fee-based card to no annual fee, you're actually getting a whole new card. That means on your credit report you'll see a closed account and a new credit card. If you're planning on doing that, make sure you're okay with your credit taking a slight hit for a while.

There is a simple way for you to choose what you can afford more like, if it is better for you to get free credit cards than first it is important to consult with the credit card companies about the hidden costs and the percentage on every credit which is necessary to know if you go for credit card which requires annual costs.

Thanks
