Dealings with IRS  Reply with quote

I've been out of work for quite a while. Just got a part time job. I worked as an independent contractor last year, and at the time didn't have any idea what implications this had on anything. I beleive the person who hired me in this capacity apparently did.

I didn't know I had to pay estimated taxes; my income was rather unpredictable, though I would have liked it to be steady. The irs penaltied me for that and the fact the my tax preparer didn't get to it until July, although I had it in on time.

I honestly am baffled how not even a legalized entity can presume to flail such 'authority' and, especially in this economic climate be so ruthless. It is indeed a nazi organization, with definite communist authoritatian leanings.

I called them up, waited 25 minutes to speak with a 'rep' (as the automated system was dysfunctioning), asked Mrs. Arne how they can presume to do this and that I direly need some assistance - and she hung up!

There is no excuse to this. You should have know about it earlier. Paying taxes and on time is a must.

The IRS audit is the taxpayer's biggest fear. Even those who do their taxes honestly begin to wonder if they do it correctly. The idea of sanctions, charges and even jail comes to mind. However, you're protected by the laws of the audit by the Internal Revenue Service audit before You panic.

In your previous job, your paycheck probably had state and federal taxes withheld. Since those taxes were not withheld from your current salary, didn't you wonder about when the taxes would have to be paid?

Well just a matter of opinion here but I do believe if Americans keep this type of attitude when it comes to government and laws our situation will only get worse. I honestly believe the IRS is one of the biggest mafias out there. Who audits the auditors? Just like the federal reserve which has never been audited. Technically paying income tax is a big scam. From what I have been led to believe there was never really a law stating Americans had to be taxed for their income. Maybe for everything else such as sales tax and what not but never for their income. Just look up extortion. If you ask me, the IRS totally practices this just the same way any mob member out there would.

One of the only aspects of communism that I beleive in is paying taxes on income for the greater benefit of us all, the less fortunate and whatnot. I don't beleive in the gestapo tactics that are sometimes used to do this, nor the brutal, merciless penalization of the taxpayer when they show good faith as I have after doing the right thing, and after my preparer decided to take his time in filing the return.
The breaking in and pillaging of a U.S. citizen was in the mainstream news recently. There are many such barbaric stories.

I don't however beleive in mindless alegiance to a communist-like regime.

The Constitution also has some things to say about this.

We've all made financial mistakes. What separates people is that smart ones learn and adjust their future decisions (in this case, paying tax estimates) so that they are better at managing their money. And the not-so-smart ones keep on making the same mistakes and then complain because they never get ahead.

I don't understand the op's statement that his tax preparer didn't get his taxes done until July. Taxes are due April 15, so your appointment with that person should have been prior to April 15, and then at that appointment, you should have signed papers for the preparer to file it electronically, and the return should have been signed and dated by that person. If the person was not able to complete the taxes in that appointment, you should have made arrangements to stop by and pick up those taxes before April 15th. Didn't you call the tax preparer and ask why your taxes weren't ready on April 14?

Or he could fly a plane into the building. Remember Coaster our country started out as a tax revolt.

Didn't one economist do a study that shows people will cheat if taxes go above 19%. Of course some will always cheat ans some will never cheat. But the masses cheat if you try and take 1/5th.

Great now if I vanish no one will know who is really responsable!!!!

Should probably research the plain thing more. My understanding is it was mostly a poor customer service issue. Just remember a few news stories.

Are there any tax soundtracks out there? Think an alternate version of Hair of the Dog with alternate Just don't mess with the IRS;)
