Does a check ever EXPIRE?  Reply with quote

sorry for all the threads, I just found this forum and I have many questions

I just discovered an uncashed check from 2006. there must have been a good reason why I didn't cash it, because I ALWAYS cash checks immedicately. Since I didn't make any notes, I'm not sure. Anybody ever deposited a really old check and it was good?

There is an expiration date on checks. I don't know what it is, so just ask the bank.

If it's from 2006 I'm pretty sure it's expired. If you still want the money you probably have to go that compnay or person and ask for an updated check. If it's a compnay it is definately expired!! If it a personal check.... I'm not sure.

When there is a specified date I think it will expire. Not a hundred percent sure but makes sense. Best to go ask the bank.

I agree, but a bank may give you a hard time when you try to deposit or cash a check that old.

If it has a date of encashment, yes most likely that it will expire. Also, let's just say it is still acceptable but the issuing account got closed, then check is unusable all the same.

You can go and ask ..err.. show the check to the bank branch. That will work and tell you if you still can use it.

Most banks will honor checks up to one year after the issue date. Many companies though print on the check how long it is valid (ex. Check valid for 90 days)

Generally government checks, cashiers checks, and certified checks do not expire, unless the check specifically states otherwise.

well the checks do expire. if it is a date check then it should probably have been expired. but you can always go to the bank and get assistance from them
