Interesting, you shouldn't throw the word scam around without getting properly educated on business first.
The inquiry was answered, but didn't get delivered until day after the 20 day limit to answer was excuse, so by default it was posted, but it is being addressed even though the GA Banking and Finance Department has no authority over any entity unless they are obviously a mortgage or financing company, which BellaHomes is not.
Needless to say, it is like most regulators, they want to overregulate. BellaHomes legal department clearly answered inquiry, and in all but GA case, it was easily resolved, BellaHomes does not mortgage or finance properties, they purchase mortgages. Why would Banking and Finance Department waste their time unless the person handling inquiry could not read. It was clearly stated on site that BellaHomes is not mortgage broker or bank and do not finance homes.

HOME REPAIR FRAUD SCHEME
$1.3 Million Swindled from Elderly, African-American Homeowners
in Subprime Loan Scam
Chicago — Attorney General Lisa Madigan today filed a lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court against a Chicago man and five home repair and mortgage companies for conducting a wide-spread scheme that targets African-American consumers on Chicago's South and West sides and has stripped nearly $1.3 million in equity from the homes of at least 36 consumers, including several who lost their homes to foreclosure.
"These defendants purposely solicit homeowners in predominantly African-American neighborhoods, luring unsuspecting borrowers into deceptive refinancing loans and home repair contracts that they cannot afford and did not necessarily need," Madigan said. "Now, many of the victims are at risk of foreclosure and some have already lost their homes as a result of this deception."
Madigan's complaint alleges that Mark Diamond owns or works with multiple financing and home repair companies in a coordinated scheme to defraud homeowners and strip equity from their homes. Based on their role in this fraud scheme with Diamond, the Attorney General also has sued the three home repair and remodeling companies, United Construction of America, Inc., United Residential Services and Real Estate Inc., and Skyway Builders #1, Inc., and two finance companies, OSI Financial Services, Inc., and Harbor Financial Group, Ltd. Diamond is president of United Residential Services and OSI Financial Services, and he works as an agent for the other companies named in Madigan's lawsuit.
Madigan alleges that Diamond targets elderly and African-American residents living on Chicago's South and West sides and solicits them either in person through door-to-door sales or over the phone, offering to refinance their mortgages with lower interest rates or lower monthly payments. To entice consumers who say they do not need to refinance, Diamond allegedly persuades the homeowners that refinancing would make it possible to use their home equity to make repairs, such as replacing aging roofs, or to add upgrades to the house, such as new kitchens and bathrooms. Through the two finance companies, OSI Financial Services and Harbor Financial, Diamond baits consumers with low interest rates and lower monthly payments but then later sticks them with higher interest rates and larger monthly payments that they cannot afford. Without the knowledge of the homeowners, Diamond also allegedly inflates their income and assets on loan applications, which also contributes to their inability to afford the loans.
Madigan's lawsuit further alleges that Diamond employs deceptive, high-pressure tactics to ensure that consumers do not object to the altered loan terms. For example, Diamond allegedly fails to tell some consumers about the closing dates for their loans, instead forging the consumers' signatures on the closing documents. When consumers do appear for closings, Diamond allegedly discourages them from bringing their own attorney. If consumers question the loan terms, Diamond allegedly offers to refinance consumers' loans one year later but then usually fails to do so, unless the consumer still has equity in the home a year later.
After the closings, Diamond allegedly convinces consumers to endorse over their "cashout" checks to him to pay for home repairs. According to Madigan's complaint, however, Diamond's repair companies often fail to begin construction. When they do start construction, Diamond's repair companies often perform substandard work or do not complete the project, leaving homeowners with outstanding loan balances for unfinished work and owing more on their homes than ever before. On many occasions, Diamond allegedly pocketed a portion of the money for his personal benefit, rather than completing the home repair projects.
Because of the expensive and risky loan terms, many consumers struggle to make monthly payments. At least 12 consumers are now in default on their loans, and two lost their homes to foreclosure. Madigan's Consumer Fraud Bureau has received 36 complaints against Diamond and the affiliated mortgage and home repair companies.
Through today's lawsuit, the Attorney General's office seeks to permanently enjoin Diamond and all companies affiliated with him from operating in Illinois and to revoke any licenses that he or the companies hold. In addition, Madigan's suit asks the courts to rescind all consumers' contracts and award restitution to consumers. The Attorney General's suit also asks the court to order the defendants to pay civil penalties of $50,000, additional penalties of $50,000 for each act committed with intent to defraud, an additional $10,000 for each act committed against a senior citizen, and the costs of the investigation and prosecution of the case.
Assistant Attorneys General Michelle Garcia and Junko Minami are handling the lawsuit for Madigan's Consumer Fraud Bureau.

You can't be serious, you run a Google search on a name, which there are hundreds of Mark S. Diamond's, and then pick one which had a legal issue and then assume it is the same Mark S. Diamond. Egads, that is almost too funny.
Why don't you take some more effort in your due diligence and find the truth, rather than assume whatever fits your agenda. I have known Mark for over a decade, and he is not from Chicago, so keep digging if you are that hell bent on making an issue out of nothing.

No doubt, FREE is a much overused word, and rarely is anything free, I agree, but there are exceptions to every rule, and this is one of them. Rather than assuming, which most will do without the effort to research the offer properly, those that do take the time to research offer and do their own due diligence will find the truth, there are a few great offers which are free, but you have to look long and hard.
Knowing that many law firms and lawyers are taking shots at BellaHomes, I fully understand since they charge up to $2K for same offer. There are hundreds of others who charge several hundred under the promise of false pretence of a loan modifications, but in reality, all they are doing is sending a request to your bank and then you receive a package from bank, which when you submit your documents, almost none are processed.
These gov. statistics are public, and the worst offender is Bank of America, so check it out for yourself. Most end up wasting months chasing a loan modification solution when their time and money would have been better spent learning the truth about this housing collapse and how to prepare yourself for the worst case scenario, losing your home. Many of these companies charge several hundred dollars, and the FTC has warned about this tactic being used and it is no longer legal to take advance fees in most states. Unfortunately, it is different with law firms, so research it for yourself.
Now we are seeing more follow the lead of BellaHomes and offer a free forensic mortgage audit, but they are not in the business of negotiating and purchasing your mortgage from bank, never mind offering you our unique lease back option for up to 7 years at 50% less then your mortgage payment was helping you if unemployed or hit by an illness which put you in jeopardy of losing your home. Everyone knows someone who is unemployed and facing foreclosure, so ask them, do they want to save their home, or lose it?
The bottom line is simple, do your own due diligence, not every situation is the same, so not every solution will result in your priroty goal, saving your home. Most of the similar offers do nothing more than delay the inevitable result of foreclosure, you lose your home, and this includes filing bankruptcy, it merely delays foreclose, it does not save your home unless you can afford full payments in chapter 13 as well as repayment of back payments, not always possible in most cases.
I focus on free services for I know in the end free attracts more potential clients then trying to charge hundreds of thousands up front with no guarantee of success. Free with no obligation is working like nothing else in the industry, but of course, we will always have people who will take potshots at us because the competition cannot compete with us, such as is the case on every potshot I have researched, it always turns out to be the competition, not someone who posts out of the goodness of their heart trying to protect consumers with a hit and run post of scam.

The financial audit is one of many assurance functions provided by accounting firms. Many organizations separately employ or hire internal auditors, who do not attest to financial reports but focus mainly on the internal controls of the organization.

The reps for Bella would be well advised to check this deal out carefully as they could be held liable for the representations they are making in regards to what Bella can in fact do for distressed homeowners.

Sometimes but I have had some good free meals in my time. But they weren't really FREE someone paid for them.
It is smart to use BOGO coupons. Take a co-worker out with a bogo and they may return the favor.
Free not being free isn't always bad.
You were right to suggest that he was mistaken when he said that something that cost nothing is clearly worth nothing, but you are mistaken to think that something isn't free merely because someone paid for something.
