The advantage of having a travel insurance is that there is security for the registered beneficiaries should something happen. It is practical for a frequent traveler.

Another important benefit of travel insurance is that it provides protection against trip cancellation and interruption. When an emergency arises before or during a vacation, travelers may have to cancel or cut short their trips. Since they have already paid for their vacations, they will stand to lose a substantial amount of money. Travel insurance ensures that they will get compensation for losses that result from trip cancellation or interruption. Additionally, those who have a travel policy will get coverage for loss baggage or personal belongings.

Travel insurance is really a great tool, but it is good only good for travellers and those who travel a lot. It is good to be secured in case something happens during the trip.

Travel insurance was key when my wife and I found out that we were having a baby and my parents had taken it out on the Caribean Cruise trip they are taking the whole family on. Thanks to the insurance we will be able to go on the cruise within 2 years.

Hmmm - everyone likes travel insurance? In general, if you live your life by hiring someone to assume the small risks that you encounter in everyday life, your chances of building wealth are diminished.

Consider what is involved - eg, a car warranty. An insurer has to find the average cost of repairs for that specific car or class of cars. They have to sell to a large group of clients so that their costs will be averaged across the group. They take the average cost of repairs for your car, add the cost of their buildings, overhead, employee salaries, and profit - and charge that premium. In other words, you pay an average of about twice the cost (marketing actually costs more that the repairs, for most types of insurance).

So - buy insurance only for things that you cannot afford to self-insure - that would be a house fire, a $200,000 heart attack, a $200,000 cancer, a multimillion law suit, etc. And it would NOT be car repair, appliance repair, TV repair, 'gap' insurance on a car note, travel insurance, etc. If you hire someone to take these small risks for you thruout your life, you will pay almost twice for your purchases.

If you have a lot of money to spare whenever you travel, you must not think twice of getting a travel insurance. Though the risk of you needing it is low, it doesn't really hurt to be prepared.

Emergency Medical Treatment - Covers the cost of emergency medical treatment
Emergency Medical Assistance - Covers the cost of emergency medical assistance
Medical Evacuation - In the event of there being no hospital capable of treating you locally, this section of the policy covers the costs of transporting you to the nearest hospital that can treat you, even if it is in another country
Hospital Benefit - A small daily amount to cover incidental costs of being a hospital in-patient abroad
Cancellation, Curtailment & Trip Interruption - Covers any financial loss, unrecoverable by other means, such as lost deposits or non-refundable transport costs
Personal Liability - Provides cover in the event that you injure a third party or damage their property
Legal Expenses - In the event of you becoming involved in litigation there is some cover for legal costs

Do you guys know of any reliable travel insurance company? And if you have this, do you still need to avail the travel insurance offered by airlines?

When planning a trip abroad, travel insurance is often viewed as a secondary consideration, and the process of booking flights and hotels is often at the forefront of peoples minds. Some people do not even take out travel insurance. Not getting a policy prior to travelling is a big mistake, as you will be missing out on the many benefits and essential protections that it provides.
