Success is a state of mind, if you want success, start thinking of yourself as a success..
What about your thinking for Success ?

Suppose that you're right. In other words, suppose that thinking of ourselves as successful may alter our frame of mind, and suppose that may often in turn be conducive to becoming successful. Even if we agree with that (and I suppose many of us might), why would we therefore think that success is a frame of mind? Our frame of mind may be important to whether or not we're successful in many situations, but saying that success is, itself, a frame of mind seems misarticulated.

Coaster, definitions are often a very good starting point. After that, an analysis of the necessary and sufficient conditions of success would be appropriate.

There are as many definitions of success as there are people on this planet. We all have our passion. If you are an athlete, your goal is to perform better than your competition.

You cannot pet the word, "cat," but you can pet a cat, and you can spell the word, "cat," but you cannot spell cat, as only words and not what words refer to can we spell. The important distinction I'm making is the incredibly obviously distinction between terms and what terms refer to.

I mention that only for one purpose, and that is to be exceptionally clear that what terms refer to do not have definitions. There is no definition of success. There is, quite obviously, some definitions of the word, "success."

I wouldn't have even bothered to bring that up either, as it is the case that people commonly talk in short-hand (and acceptably so), so my qualm isn't to call you out on such a piddly point, as it's ridiculously obvious (well, in most cases) what is being discussed.

The real underlying point of all this is to ensure I don't lose you or other readers as I address the false statement you made regarding the number of definitions of the word, "success." I am being charitable by supposing that you were talking not about success but rather the term, especially since it cannot (not to be confused with can not) be the case that the referent of the referring term can have a definition.

There are no where near that many definitions of the word, "success." You may think there are that many opinions about what constitutes success (as many as there are people, your thinking may be), but not even that would be the case since not all people have an opinion regarding it, but even if it were the case that they did or could, such opinions ought not be regarded as definitions. They're not the same thing.

All (or if not all, then most all) definitions are explanations, but not all explanations are definitions. Definitions are not just explanations but an explanation of meaning. The kind of meaning will often depend on the kind of definition. For example, a stipulative definition would not explain a lexical meaning. Unless context disambiguates otherwise or if it’s explicitly stated, a person is discussing a lexical definition when they talk about definitions. This is important as we can readily investigate the authoritative sources readily available to us that house lexical definitions—and the number of them.

I dare say that it's your turn. Provide evidence to support your claim--evidence that demonstrates there are as many definitions as there are people on this planet.

How successful shall you be?

PS: I hope you know this playful post was made in all good fun! And yes, I was bored.

Success and Winning are two different phenomena.. Success can achieved by everybody but Winning is not. A looser is always there behind the winner. Here Success is a strategy and not a goal to reach and not a medal to win. It has no limitations ever. Everyone is eligible for it.

Success is a journey of our life and in the way of it, we achieve what we want.

fast...you should read wittgenstein...

language is based upon concepts which cannot be seen in the real world (in my opinion - some people feel certain concepts can be seen, but i am not sure if they think it is in the real world). language is quite an obstacle, so now let's use language.

i suspect when people talk about being successful, the success would fall in the category that is the single most important aspect of their lives: their wish to be happy.

there are many philosophies and schools of thought on how to approach happiness. many of us start on our own thinking wealth accumulation will do it - which is a form of materialism. that one has been tried many times throughout history, but i don't know of anyone who got it to work...
