To try to avoid using keywords are too general, chances are a lot of sites will use the same keywords, it is certainly more difficult.

Try to avoid low quality link building, low quality content and no follow sites for generating backlinks. Related link building is also good for good results in SEO.

Better to avoid all black hat techniques of Search engine optimization and face the competition in a genuine way by following SEO ethics. Better not to use any content spinners, link building softwares, spamming blogs, page swaps, link swaps etc.

Use of apt text links will help in navigation of the page. This will help in reaching the home page by few clicks. Those who are using graphical bars may modify it to text links for better result.

The text links help in reaching the pages and in navigation. The pages should be reached in three clicks and if you have graphical bars for navigation then the changing of the text links are important and an introduction of sitemap

I say the biggest downfall is duplicate content. sooo many spammers. Its becoming a problem. Im even getting the content I post to my blog ripped.... at least they provide my backlink...

The best advice is to just make quality content. If your site is good then people will link to it and it will get a higher page rank.
