401k rollover allocation  Reply with quote

I'm very thankful for places like this site as my financial knowledge is somewhat limited, but growing daily.

I am rolling over a small 401k into a Sharebuilder IRA account. I was planning on allocating 50% to metals ETF's and 50% mutual funds. Someone I trust once told me that it's better to invest your retirement in metals than mutual funds. Does this still hold true? Should I put more into the ETF's?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Welcome to the forum! It is not possible to make much of a suggestion without knowing the rest of your situation. But if you just want a "place holder" fund, use money market or one of the target funds or a Lifestrategy Fund until you get your portfolio straighten out. When you have a plan for the whole portfolio, you can exchange it into something you actually need.

What does his portfolio look like and what is his networth. I only trust people that have actually done it and have a high networth.
