Odesk is just a middleman, the thing that determines whether it's good or bad are the participants. Those who post the jobs and those who undertake them are individuals and subject to all the frailties that come with being human beings.
Successful freelancing also depends on your expertise livehelp. If you have skills and experience that are in demand, you'll be able to find freelance work.
As a picky side note, I'd avoid typing in all caps when you apply for work. You don't want people to think you are yelling at them.

Ya, it's the moderator cranks....gotta act out once in a while, otherwise I get REALLY, REALLY grouchy, and if that happens, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

I'm all over it now, so I guess you'll just have to keep waiting.

You've got to have a sense of humor once in awhile. It keeps life and the forum fun.
Your first response cracked me up. And good points were made about typing in ALL CAPS and why you shouldn't.

Ya, I know it's a financial forum and you've gotta have a certain decorum. However, once in a while I miss being the forum cut-up; we had a lot of fun in certain other forums until in one forum some new owner came along and put a stick-in-the-mud in as lead moderator....she was just looking for an excuse to get me banned and it didn't take long.

quote:Originally posted by mortgagenetbranch I have spent thousands on Odesk, I think they are great for certain tasks. The problem is if you don't know exactly how to "manage" who you hire they can sometimes do crappy work. I try to pay a very small amount upfront and most upon completion of the project. I also only used fixed amounts - not hourly
I believe the original poster was looking to freelance, not outsource.
