Is pagerank still working or is it dead?

I read some where that Google does not consider the page rank number any more. Is it true?

Having a decent Page Rank is still important I think. But I tend to focus more on quality traffic. Smile

I think you reading it all wrong.

Google gives page ranking based on other factors ( one of these factors is traffic, and links to your website.

Having a reasonable Web page Position is still important I think. But I usually concentrate more on high quality visitors.

Well Page rank reflects how "electronically referenced" your site has become and thus holds value in terms of back-links, prospective traffic and on-page popularity.

So PR is still relevant, but only as a background guide to web presence.

Social media is also becoming more important to search engine rankings than PR, if not already.

I've heard that PR is becoming less and less important for google. Still PR is a measure of side quality but not as important as it used to be.

PAGE RANK Is USELESS  Reply with quote

Interesting,

Page Rank is like everything else when it comes to the internet, what use to work yesterday doesn not mean it will work today, never mind tomorrow. PR was the focus back in the day of early ranking strategies, but like most learned, it was not always the only answer to get indexed on top fo organic searches. I worked at it for years with marginal success, and today, I wouldn't waste my time with PR, it makes no difference at all any longer. Remember when you use to enter a search term and you would see the results through PR, when was the last time you saw this happen? I can't even remember, and just like DMOZ ranking, a long gone benefit.

Success to all,

Pagerank is still around, however it isn't very relative anymore. All about good content now!

PR has not got an update for long time and the guys from Google said that there are very slim chances that this will ever be updated again.

A few years ago it was relevant as it was a way to see how popular a website is - as far as backlinks and authority goes.

Page rank does not mean anything anymore. If you want to get a decent metric for how you're website stacks up against the competition i suggest using Moz's Open Site Explorer tool. In the SEO community I would say that's the safest bet to determine the overall authority you might have in Google's eyes.
