Do index funds send turbo tax friendly statements?  Reply with quote

I am looking at moving some funds into something like Vanguard or Fidelity.

My current wealth advisor setup has always sent me a pre canned electronic format that rolls seamlessly into my turbotax.

One of my hobgoblins about moving into index funds, and saving some fees, is that I do not want to lose the ease of uploading at tax time.

Does Vanguard send these electronic format statements or would I have to take them to my accountant?

I want to start testing the index fund water early next year. If I can manage to not screw up a few thousand, I may gain enough confidence to start funneling funds that direction.

You might want to contact Vanguard and ask. If worse comes to worse, it is still relatively easy to enter the information manually.

The first year I had to handle the investment statement myself, it ran 23 pages of itty bitty print. It is not possible for me to sort out the foreign tax credits, taxable amounts, fees, etc., so I took the whole thing that year to the accountant. The years after this, my advisor prepacks a digital version that I can upload to my tax software. If I start doing basic index funds like Vanguard, it is pretty important that I not have a nightmare at tax time.

Alas, easily entering the data myself is solidly out of the question.
