With 5 grand, Think I would pay off my rent for the remander of my lease. Would then move out into another apt and begin paying it off with my normal monthly bill set-up.
With the apt I just moved out of, I would allow any/all family members who need a place to get away for a few hours, or spend the night or wanna gather for family fuctions. A nice apt that doesn't have anyone liveing in it for a year avilable to my family, would be a better gift in my mind, then say a random 5 grand check in the mail.

I would take my wife to Ireland. We live in the US and she has always dreamed of visiting Ireland. Maybe one day I will get her there....

If I had $5,000 at this point in time, I would be the happiest human being on earth. I have just experienced a major financial disaster, and this would help set me on the road to recovery. How I would spend it is as follows:
$300.00 Establish a secured credit card
$1500.00 Pay off the balance I owe on a new computer I purchased on time.
$3200.00 Deposit money in my savings account to help offset some of my living expenses in the future.

$5000 huh? 1st $500 goes to the Lord! It all belongs to Him! 2nd, I'd give my sweet wife $500. 3rd, I'd put $1000 in savings. And last, I would put the balance in FantasticPay.

If I have extra 5000. Some of them I will invest in a good programme, Some of them will put in deposit and some buy things which i like.
