As you said you are living in the Bay Area, CA, the expenses in that part of the world are touching the sky. With $87k salary, it will be hard to accumulate wealth for retirement. However, if you could try to cut down your expenses somehow, then you may save some extra dollars. E.G. You can move to Inland if you are tied to CA. The housing rents in that area are comparatively lesser than the Bay Area. Cut down the unnecessary expenditure to save more. Invest the extra saved amount in the suitable tools which ease the overall wealth management .

I guess the best advice I can give you is simply make goals for yourself.
Make yearly goals and break them down into monthly goals.
As you achieve your monthly goals, you will feel good and keep working harder and before you know it, you will see a big change in your life.
