Vacation Benefit Policy – Seeking Feedback |
|
|
I have a friend, based in MI, who is a small business owner (service provider). She has four (4) full time employees, one of which has requested one day off per week during the summer. Employee’s pay will be docked accordingly and owner sees no manpower shortfall issues, plus no expectation that other employees will do same. Beyond the vacation benefit, there seem to be no other issues (pension, health insurance, etc.).
Owner plans to trim employee’s annual vacation benefit by the following percentage: summer days taken / annual work days (250). So, if employee takes 17 days over the summer, his vacation benefit would be reduced by 6.8 percent (17/250).
Owner is cognizant of a precedent being set and plans to inform all employees of the applied/added policy. Her path seems straightforward and the policy fair. Is there anything else she should consider here?
Thank you,
