| Cost Basis on Old Stock |

I need cost basis figures for some old GE common stock that I acquired back in the 70s-80s for my taxes.
I found a site that shows back to 2012, but that won't help me.
Any idea what I can do to get this information?
If I can't locate it, can I put a default cost basis of $1 or something?
