Do Blogs really make Money?  Reply with quote

Blog Rich?

For anybody interesting in the earning potential of the web, the topic of making money by public posting of your musings has been much discussed. There has been a lot of hype about getting rich blogging, so what's the deal?

Blogs

Of course, a blog is a website that contains dated articles in a newest-first format. Free blog sites like Blogger have brought push-button publishing to the masses, and now millions of blogs are available on the Internet with regularly updated articles on every topic under the Sun.

Along Came AdSense

AdSense is a pay-per-click advertising network run by Google. The idea is that advertisements are contextually selected based on the content that appears on the same page. This provides more relevance which makes the system work better for everyone. Suddenly there was an easy way to tap into a huge advertising network so that even the small-time publisher, like a blogger could get a little piece of the pie. But this equation also requires visitors, but blogs have an advantage!

Community of Blogs

One interesting thing about blogs is that bloggers have a unique community. Traditional web establishments like retail sites or major news outlets tend to not link together out of not wanting to aid the competition, but blogs freely interlink in a variety of ways. First, related blogs will often affiliate together, meaning each blog has a list of partners that they use to link together. Secondly, many blogs will highlight significant articles from other blogs. All this interlinking means that the best information sources tend to get the most traffic through the blog network.

Why Search Engines Like Blogs

There are a few features that make search engines crazy about blogs. The interlinking mentioned before adds to a blog's link popularity score which helps to establish a popular blog site as an authority site in the eyes of the search engine ranking formulas. Also blogs are meant to be regularly updated, and Google, for one, is known for appreciating fresh content. And finally, the permalink. Another feature of blogs that the engines like is that blog software usually provides blog authors with the ability to create a permanent page for selected blog entries. So even though the blog's homepage news may be updated and changing, an article has a permanent home that the search engine can index and send relevant traffic to.

But about the Money?

One popular blog author recently reported that his site was on the way to making about a million dollars over the current year. While there are many blogs that do make a lot of money, the average blog will not make very much. This is due primarily to a lack of traffic, but the good news is that for quality blogs that can continously provide interesting commentary, news and information, the community of blogs will help them get more visibility and traffic. Money aside, some blog just to augment search engine traffic for their main website, and many just blog because they enjoy it. So blog what you love, and the money will follow! Wink

You've nailed it on the head. Doesn't matter what website you have, what you're selling, what you're offering. If you have traffic you have money, period.

Traffic = Money assumes you know what you are doing.

You can't just refresh and get paid. Wink

To get enough publicity you need to have something that many people will find interesting. If it's good enough to get them to come back, then you'll get some momentum.

People with expert knowledge, or unique viewpoints, or just execellent collections of others info can start something that will get lots of publicity. Look at the Drudge Report, it isn't in blog format, but it is the same priciple. All it is, is a collecting of links to other news agencies stories for the most part. Updated daily. The traffic is huge.

Getting people to come back is the most important thing of all. That way, if you get new people every day, then it adds to your traffic as the old are still comming back. The problem with my sites is, one has a forum but not enough traffic to get it going so there is no interesting topics to bring people back. The other, my main one, I update every day but if someone were to spend an hour a day reading all the things I have on it, they could probably get through it in about a week or maybe a little more, even with the updates. The investing site is still very young and I plan to add a forum to that when I get up to a decent amount of daily visits but until then, the only reason someone would come to that site would be to read an updated article which I don't have time to get to every day now.

I guess I should practice what I preach, but the bottom line is, if people want to come back to your site, your traffic will grow.

I'm not really going after repeat visitors with my two blogs (Finance Choices and The Good Gift Guide. Each blog is setup to target niche keywords with each post. I'm targeting several hundreds posts on each by the end of the year, each bringing in a few visitors per day from the search engines.

The user should read the article, click the link, buy from the merchant, I get my commission. It's looking very promising so far.

I am now trying to make money with the blog in my signature. I know that Google favors their blogs in their search engine rankings, so hopefully this will provide me some traffic!

Blogs can make you very rich  Reply with quote

Yes. Blogs will make you a lot of money.

A great idea is to create your own blog, customize it with some Adsense or other pay per click advertisments and then get traffic to it through other blogs. A great way to get your blog noticed by the search engines (Yahoo to be exact) very soon is to create your Yahoo account and add an RSS feed from your blog to that website. Then you ping it and voila - you will be listed in no time.

You can use a great software tool to get your posts on 100's of blogs and increase traffic to your blog or web site. After posting on so many blogs the search engines will notice you and rank you very high.

Find that tool in the recommended field on my web site (first one in the signature).

Have a great day.

You have to think about your talents and if people can benefit from them. If you're funny, you can make a hell of a lot of money by making comic strips that you can just host on your site. If you're good at organizing, you can make archive sites. All you have to do is have that "paypal donate" sign up there. I've given people money numerous times if I was impressed wiith or found very helpful their site. There's so many things you can do, you just need to be a little innovative. And this doesn't just apply to blogs, although I guess that way you don't have to pay for the website.

Hi There,

There are a lot of ways to earn through blogs, I myself earn my second income through blogs. To make this possible you need to select a domain and a hosting service for that.

And then select a niche and try writing blogs and make them visible on Google. Once your blogs starts ranking you'll get new visitors to you website and some of them may ask you for the guest post.

Here is where you can earn you ask for the payment if you want to publish the article on your website. And the other source for earning through blogs is Google Adsense. After publishing a couple of blogs on website you could opt for the Google Adsense. There are many other alternatives of Google Adsense from which you can earn money.

I hope my answer will be some sort of helpful. Cheers!
