Experiences with Adsense  Reply with quote

First, if I shouldn't have this here I'm sorry but I feel it should go here.

So what are everyones experiences with adsense? I've been tinkering with it on my forum/bbs (the address in my signature) for a week now... I'm about $9k in debt, and someone at work came to me about adsense and wondered how someone could make decent money with it. I've been toying with it the past 6 days and have made under $50 but I don't have that many regular users on my bbs. What are everyones experiences with it and any tips? I'm interested in getting out of debt faster (its all "good debt", student loans)... faster as in a year or so, so I can have one less payment to worry about each month. However, if adsense seems to be rather profitable (on my forum I doubt it'd ever make me much though) hey thats great. Well I look forward to hearing everyones experiences... I've read the few adsense threads i've found on here... and I know there has to be more people using adsense!

I visit a couple web publisher forums where your question might be answered a little better.

www.websitepublisher.net

This is a really good one full of articles, I like it a lot.

www.sitepoint.com

This one is substantially larger than websitepublisher so your question will get more exposure but I like websitepublisher better.

There are several methods people use to get higher click throughs with their adsense, placing ads at the top and bottom of the pages rather than on the sides is one of them. With your forum, I'm sure there is some way you can integrate it into the forum cleverly so it will get more clicks. Just remember, don't ever click your own ads because they will beat you with reeds.

AdSense is a great system, there is really nothing that comes close for set and forget type earning. Affiliate programs can make more, but only under the ideal curcumstances.

I'm glad that the direct deposit feature is out of Beta, am working on getting it setup. New custom reports feature can be nice too.

I've had great experiences with adsense, but I thought I'd also tell you that Yahoo! is getting into this business by offering a beta version of its publisher network. This is good news because right now Google is the only one that offers a publisher network that is worth anything to small sites and they've basically had a monopoly. It will be good to have some competition.

It will be interesting to see if the payouts for both Adsense and Yahoo go up once Yahoo moves out of beta!

Great news  Reply with quote

sayyes, that's great news. I've heard of Yahoo! doing it myself, but
couldn't find the link. Is it not yet available to the whole public?

I think it could (at least at the beginning) be a lot better as Yahoo! puts your ad on for as much as you bid. Google however only takes one cent more than the second largest bid. If you bid $10 on Google, you could only pay $0.05, if you are the only bidder, but on Yahoo you pay $10 anyway. Well, that's what I heard. If so, this could be much better for the publishers, but worse for the advertisers.

But later on, I think Yahoo! payouts will go down as Google could go up a bit. But we'll see.

ryanmercer: Adsense is great (I went to click on one ad in your forum Wink ), but I think I'll buy the product they're selling so it's a winwin anyway.

My experience is, make ads non intrusive, but easily visible (positioning). Draw targeted traffic to your web site and you should do fine. Content is not a problem, I saw (on your blog).

Have a great day Smile

"Hello Ryan Mercer,

It has come to our attention that invalid clicks have been generated on
the Google ads on your site(s). We have therefore disabled your Google
AdSense account. Please understand that this step was taken in an
effort to protect the interest of the AdWords advertisers.

A publisher's site may not have invalid clicks on any ad(s), including
but not limited to clicks generated by:

- a publisher on his own web pages
- a publisher encouraging others to click on his ads
- automated clicking programs or any other deceptive software
- a publisher altering any portion of the ad code or changing the
layout, behavior, targeting, or delivery of ads for any reason"

However, I have not clicked even a single one of my ads. I have not made any program to do the clicking, I have not changed any of the ad code. However they say, since my IP visited the website that It is fraud. HELLO IT IS A FORUM, OF COURSE I VISITED MY OWN SITE!!!!!!! So the 300$ I had earned in the past few weeks is gone, because heaven forbid, I visit my own site!

thank you, I"ll look into it. I just want some sort of ads that pay on my forum, no one minded the adsense ones so why not profit off of having ads there. Right now I've just got affiliate banners up, but people will get tired of seeing the same thing. Thanks for the link.

Wow... it doesn't seem to pay much at all, period. acent or two here and there... eesh... I need one that is going to pay semi decent. All of its annoyingness is not worth a few dollars a month. Hell I'll pay them a few dollars a month to stay away from me... but I'll leave them up untill I find someone else.
