The big questions is at 17 do you have an online budget available to invest in your future?
Otherwise you are left to using free resources and studying free tutorials online.

It will be very difficult to make money without a budget or web skills ... But you will be suprised what $200-300 can do for you in today's world economy. Let me know if you will decide to invest some money into the Web and I can point you to the right direction

Well zip your pocket up quick!
Making an announcement like that in a public Forum is an invitation for the wolves to attack.
You don't need anywhere near that much to get started. After you have some success with an inexpensive program, then you can expand on a sound footing. By then, you will have the basics down and can apply them with expertise.
One thing I would recommend strongly if you are going to do business online is get a PayPal business account opened. You may need someone older to sign for you, but it would be worth the effort it takes.
Then keep asking questions in Forums. When you meet someone who seems to know what they are talking about, send them a PM and ask for help. Build a solid relationship of trust and respect in both directions before you show anyone your money.
Good luck,

I respectfully disagree. If you are thinking about learning internet technologies, money-messageboards will only sap you of the time and will you need to succeed.
Get an old retired PC.
Install Linux.
Install Apache.
Install PHP.
Install MySQL - or Postgresql, if you care about quality.
Think up a neat idea.
Open up a text editor and code your idea in php.
Usenet is a good resource. Php.net. There are others if you are interested.
Any other route besides "just do it" is both a waste of your time and an insult to your intelligence.

That's like telling someone they need a post-graduate medical degree in brain surgery to give pedicures!

Yeah, good point. Except installing Linux and apache etc aint hard. It's a weekend project for a reasonably logical-minded newbie.
Starting at the beginning like that will give him the opportunity to find his niche, or if he's even interested in this stuff.
If you want a website because you (incorrectly) believe it's the only real way to make money without losing it in a scam, then the resulting website will basically be a shallow bid for cash.
My answer is that you need to put your hands on the technology and see if you like the work.
If you don't like the work, find something else, because you won't make money here. If you LIKE the work, then get started already! It's not hard. It does require patience and of course troubleshooting skills are always nice.
You know the sort of creativity that British chap showed when he sold a million pixels for a dollar each? No tutorial will teach you to think that way.
Jump into the technology with all four feet.

What do you think? |
|
|
I think I read about that fellow that started the pixel page, and he did it on a virtual server he rented online.
When you can get a share of a server on a huge pipe with Cpanl and Fantastico making it virtually plug and play you can put the technology behind you and do just fine.
I happen to be quite comfortable running Linux and Apache as well as using PHP and MySQL, but I still do everything on a virtual server. Just getting a connection in my house with a big enough pipe would blow the budget. Instead I have a piece of a dual xenon server on concurrent backbones out of the heart of the Silicone Valley for six bucks a month. If I have trouble I call tech support and spend the rest of my time thinking about new ways to make money.

You need to decide if you want to become a web programmer or just hire some one to build a site for you and then just promote and maintain it ...
