Penny stocks are a dangerous game. You can come out a large winner, or you could be wiped out. It is necessary, if you choose to enter this arena, to watch your stocks very closely. I know it is a difficult thing to watch your account balance going lower and lower each day. Hang in there! You could either say to yourself "I am using money I can afford to lose" or "I will not quit until I come close to my profit target". Let me give you an example. There is a small issue called Green Mountain Capital symbol "GMOC". I picked it up in August of 2005. There was a reverse split (instead of being more shares there are less shares). The bottom line is that I had very few shares left. But instead of losing value, I started to gain value. As a result I came out with a 58% profit in six months (after commissions). This doesn't happen very often, and you have to react quickly when it does. For all of the potential penny stock traders, I hope this helps you. Cool

Sarah:

You upset me quite a bit by the comments you made. Do think I am fool enough to take every penny I have and throw it down the drain. That is what speculating is all about. I use very little money when I buy sub-penny and other small stocks. How could I have made close to 60% return on GMOC if it was a loser. The majority of the money I have invested is in stable companies such as Altria, Pepsico, MMM, Procter & Gamble, etc. I like to take small amounts of money $10-$20 and see what kind of return I can get. Maybe it doesn't make sense to you, but as I stated in several messages before, the return I get is not as important as my win/loss ratio.
Please don't take the words that are expressed in these forums as a personal attack. It is just opinions. There is no right or wrong answer. Thank you for understanding.

No...only a portion of your money is apparently utilised in this manner.

That's the problem of making the Internet so easy to use....ANYONE can use it!

Speculating is not about throwing money down drains. Speculating means to observe and to make decisions based on those observations. Speculating <> Guessing/Gambling.

So this is 'something to do' rather than having anything to do with actual investing?

It makes perfect sense; you are gambling, nothing more.

When critisising art...sure...dealing with concrete, absolute numbers...NO!

That's an annoying way of turning "Thank you" into a command, like "Thank you for not smoking."

"Expect me when you see me."

I respect you as an individual with great insight and knowledge. Why do you have to come down so hard on people? We are all in this together, trying to get views from the members here so that we can make wiser money decisions. Nobody here thinks they are better than anyone else. We are all trying to learn from each other. Could you please try to be kinder to the folks here (including myself), otherwise we will lose some members. I don't think your goal is to chase members away from here. Let's all make a truce and discuss the issues here as educated adults.

You don't act like it since you try to quench said discussion: some key money issues you think should never be mentioned and others not mentioned in public. WTF?

There you go go again, speaking for everybody! Who the hell do you think you are!?

Apparently, you do think you are better than everyone else since you take it upon yourself to speak on everyone's behalf and you think your 'opinions' should direct others' behaviour.

Assessing your statement: I seriously doubt everybody here thinks they are the same as everyone else here. If they did, there wouldn't be much point in talking to people who are the same as you, now is there?

Furthermore, your statement is too simplistic: we are all pretty much 'better' than others in some contexts and not in others. I am primarily here to talk to people who are BETTER than I at finances; that is how I learn. Frankly, I think I am better than most with some financial aspects and there is nothing wrong with that. That just means that my primary pupose here is a little harder to achieve and that I have a responsibility to others to teach what I do know. I also happen to think that my cats are cuter than coaster's. Razz

Oh? I didn't realise there was a war going on that needed a truce. I would also like to know who hasn't been acting like 'an educated adult'..?

My wife has been amazed at "how a bunch of boring old guys talking about money can be so dramatic!"
I can't figure it out either.

It is not necessary to criticize every word someone says. You have the right to say what you want. I don't appreciate it when you insult me and highlight every word I say with a nasty comment. You are intelligent and know your stuff. You could comment about what people say in a nicer way. If you are angry about something, express your views. Please don't respond to this thread with sarcastic remarks and insults. I have the right to be here as well as you. It is difficult for me to say anything without you picking it apart, so I would appreciate it if you would just make comments without insults. Thank you.

I know absolutely nothing about penny stocks.

Is there a thread or a link someone could direct me to so I can learn more? I want to throw some of my money down the drain.
