When to call it quits  Reply with quote

I've have this web site now for a few months. My advertising fees are costing me about $700 per month. I haven't made a single penny yet, since my plan was to give free access for the first few months.

However, looking at the traffic that I'm getting it looks like it will be very hard to make any money since the competition out there is huge.

When should I call it quits? What or when do I stop from investing on this site?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Note: Please do not post advertisements. If you want to know the site name please send me a private message.

Thank you.

It sounds to me like you may be spending a bit too much on advertising on the site. You should look at some less expensive ways at first the increase ad spending as your income increases. I try to do a little more than break even each month with my sites, my income has been steadily increasing lately so the amount I spend on advertising has too. This seems to be working for me.

I think that a few months is way too soon to call it quits. The reason why 95% of people don't make money online is because they keep doing the same marketing techniques and don't get results and do them over again expecting something different.

I don't know what your niche is but I can bet you can probably benefit from free advertising techniques. Every online marketers goal is to keep advertising costs down, that is the beautiful thing about starting an online business, the operating costs are far lower then an offline venture.

Have you tried any free techniques like articles, SEO, forums, and giving away free reports or e-books?

The people who become successful online are the ones who are persistent and keep on going despite big setbacks.

Don't give up just yet, keep trying different marketing methods and find what works for you. If something is costing you money and getting no results, stop doing it right away and find out how you can modify it to work better or find other options.

Thank you for your words of support.

I've done some articles on PRWEB and Ezines. Got some traffic but nothing that has converted. I think you are right and I should re think my strategies and try a different approach and give more time.

I appreciate your words of encouragement. Smile

Just remember, you don't always have to pay for good advertising. Be sure to exhaust all of the free options before paying too much for your advertisements.

Well, for one a signature in forums that you are a member of can always help. Link exchanges are also a good way to get some traffic. As far as not making any money at all, how much traffic do you get? Maybe if you threw up some google adsense ads or something similar you could make a little bit of money.

Have a great local restraunt but based on the busisness I see I don't even know how she covers her heating bill.

I would say it is time to quit spending that kind of money on advertizing.

But I would never encouage anyone to quit anyting other then bad habits like smoking.

Perhpas you could run a refeal contest with existing site visitors?

I have been known to join in referal contests just for the fun of it.

It won't, but it may provide some income from the traffic you have.

Of course it will steal some of your visitors and spirit them off to other sites as well.

Yes, that is definately a slight negative about adsense is you can count on around 2% of your visitors to be sent elsewhere but you also have the potential to make a decent revenue from those 2%.
